Exhibition Design Project

Project for GD201 - Graphic Design Context & Experience

PLEASE NOTE: I completed this project as a study of the function of the interstate highway system in the context of users, settings, precedents, and practices. It was completed in late 2020 for NC State, and it does not reflect my current views regarding the interstate highway system. These days, I see American freeway design as deeply misguided and dysfunctional on all levels.

Design research was the essential component of this project, which was created in GD201 - Graphic Design Context & Experience. As the first step, a literature review was performed for the topic of the design, which in my case was highway interchange design.

Research was then integrated into a visual "concept map." A concept map appears like a mind map, but is distinct in that it links nouns using verbs.

The concept map was then translated into a visual language in order to more expressively convey the content of the research.

Finally, the researched information included in the concept map was integrated into a 5-panel exhibition design. This design was to include a visual timeline of the topic.
